We will be putting up the Angel Tree the week after Thanksgiving. · Any gloves, mittens, hats, or health products (shampoo, soap, toothpaste, tooth brush, toilet paper, etc) donations will be appreciated. · All hat, glove, etc donations will be asked to be hung on the tree for decorations and any health products stored underneath the tree. · This is a school-wide event, so anyone is encouraged to donate. · Some professors help us out by asking their students to donate to the tree, so this is usually a very successful event. · In the past we have borrowed trees, but this year we plan to invest in a tree. We are planning to by a $30 prelit tree within the next two weeks so we have the tree in the future. · Amber Sherman has posters for the event ready to go; if you would like any more information, please contact Amber.

Adopt a classroom will also be starting up again soon. If you are interested in this event, please let Kali know. To participate in this activity, you can either go as a group or go by yourself and do a short lesson with the class. Most groups prepare a lesson for their classroom that is around 30-45 minutes. You can do as many lessons as you can that is convenient for both you and the classroom teacher (Most groups try for either once or twice a month). This is a great way to get classroom experience!!

Hi, Just a little clarification on the proposed changes to the eled/sped program. When the program changes are approved, ELED/SPED majors will have a choice of either ELED/K-8 SPED or ELED/K-12 SPED. The elementary portion of the composite major will remain the same for both choices. SPECIAL NOTE: The program has NOT been approved yet. Program changes involve a long process starting with approval within the College of Education, then the DSU Curriculum Committee, on to DSU administration...then it goes off campus for approval at the Academic Vice Presidents Council, the Council of Presidents, and finally to the Board of Regents. We will make an announcement once we receive notification from the BOR. I was at the Teacher Job Fair last week with the spring student teachers looking for jobs for next year. I talked to several administrators and recruiters. Samantha is correct; they are inundated with elementary education applicants and look for something to make an applicant stand out. Over and over I heard that anyone with special education is of interest to them, even though they are hiring elementary teachers. The special education background is so helpful in the classroom. Something to keep in mind. If you are not presently an ELED/SPED major, but would like to talk about the possibilities, please contact me. I'd be happy to visit with you about the program requirements and answer your questions. Let me know if you have questions regarding the proposed changes to the eled/sped program. We are excited about the possibilities and anxiously await the Board of Regents decision. Thank you. |
